The Acclimatisation Project, 2001
Pigment prints on rag paper
The Acclimatisation Project speculated on relationships between identity and place, and between bodily and photographic experiences of place. Introduced plants and Australian landscapes share the frame. The film negatives were weathered outside (acclimatised) in each plant’s country of origin. The resulting degraded surfaces interrupt photographic illusion, reflecting my interest in our acceptance of photography as a substitute for a physical, tangible experience of a place.
