The Acclimatisation Project Pigment prints each 86cm x 86cm 2001
‘The Acclimatisation Project’ speculates on relationships between identity and place, and between bodily and photographic experiences of place.
Foreign plants and indigenous landscapes share the frame in each image. The negatives from which the prints were made were weathered outside [acclimatised] in that plant’s country of origin. The resulting degraded surfaces interrupt photographic illusion, reflecting my interest in our acceptance of photography as a substitute for a physical, tangible experience of a place.
